More Information on VMMC

What is VMMC

VMMC is a minor surgical procedure involving the removal of the foreskin from the penis. When performed by trained healthcare professionals in a sterile medical setting, it is safe, effective, and can play a significant role in preventing HIV and improving overall male health.

CHAPS' Comprehensive VMMC Program

CHAPS offers a holistic and client-centred VMMC package, which includes:

  • Group Education: Led by trained counsellors, these sessions cover the benefits and risks of VMMC and broader sexual health education.
  • HIV Counselling and Testing: All VMMC clients are offered HIV testing and counselling.
  • TB Screening: Screening for tuberculosis symptoms is provided, with referrals for treatment when necessary.
  • STI Screening and Treatment: Diagnosis and management of common STIs, including gonorrhoea, chlamydia, and syphilis.
  • Linkage to HIV Care: Clients who test HIV-positive are linked to antiretroviral therapy (ART) services for ongoing care.
  • The VMMC Procedure: Conducted by experienced medical professionals in a sterile, safe environment.
  • Post-Operative Care: Comprehensive aftercare, including follow-up visits and management of any side effects or complications.

A Holistic HIV Prevention Approach

VMMC is just one part of CHAPS’ integrated strategy for HIV prevention and care. We also offer services such as:

  • HIV Testing Services (HTS)
  • Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)
  • Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

By combining these interventions with VMMC, STI care, and TB screening, CHAPS provides a well-rounded, client-focused healthcare experience that prioritizes both prevention and treatment.

Supported by Grants and Fee-for-Service Projects

CHAPS operates through a combination of funded programs, including grants and fee-for-service models, to ensure our services are accessible and sustainable across diverse communities.
