Alfred Khehla Adams is the CHAPS Eswatini Chief of Party. Alfred served as Technical Director for three years and was promoted to CoP in 2017. A Medical Social Scientist and Global Health Specialist, Alfred obtained his first degree, a double major, from the University of Eswatini with majors in Geography, Environmental Science and Urban Planning, and Sociology. Alfred’s introduction into research and health was his study in Remote Sensing and GIS, and his analysis of the Urban Heat Island in Mbabane City, the first study of its kind.
Alfred worked for the Population Council in Eswatini and coordinated several voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) studies in Eswatini’s circumcision program. During his time at ICAP, Alfred coordinated the first HIV incidence measurement survey in Eswatini. Alfred furthered his studies at the Institute of Social Science Research at the University of Amsterdam and is currently finalizing his PhD, focusing on Swazi men’s utilization of HIV services including testing, linkage to treatment, and VMMC. Having worked in Eswatini’s Public Health Sector for more than 10 years, Alfred has intimate local knowledge of the country, its healthcare landscape, the Swazi people, their culture, and has close relationships with key staff within the Ministry of Health.
