VMMC includes HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) of patients before undergoing the surgical procedure. HIV testing remains a crucial part of the HIV prevention package and the current 90-90-90 programme. This course is therefore, designed to provide counsellors and individuals who are interested in counselling with the basic knowledge and skills for HIV testing and counselling as part of the VMMC or 90-90-90 programmes.

The course material includes a CHAPS HTS Counselling learner guide, pre and post-course tests, HTS Guidelines, competency report form, client log sheet and feedback/evaluation form.
Competency will be assessed based on the number of clients counselled and tested, the ability to provide good HIV counselling and testing sessions and trainees deemed competent will be certified.
