CHAPS is part of the Scaling up Access for Expanded (SAFE)VMMC services project as part of a consortium providing VMMC services on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) Namibia in selected regions across the country. Abt Associates leads the consortium that had Health Information Systems Program (HISP) as the health information technology partner with communication steered by Community Media Trust (CMT) and Kondjeni Youth Enterprise (KOYEP). The project is a 5-year project running from October 2019 to September 2024. As a partner for Quality in the project, the role of CHAPS is aligned to the project’s strategic objective of strengthening Quality Assurance (QA) and quality management of VMMC services.
In 2020 CHAPS welcomed Derek Mangoya to the team. Derek is our Quality Assurance Advisor of SAFE in Namibia. He holds a medical degree from the University of Zimbabwe, an MPH (Health Policy and Management) from the University of Pretoria, and a Diploma in Project Management. Prior to joining CHAPS, he worked in the public health, NGO, and private sectors in Namibia. He was originally contracted as a VMMC provider for a public-private partnership.
He has also worked as a VMMC provider in Eswatini, partnering with the Family Life Association of Swaziland and as part of the technical committee for the Accelerated Saturation Drive (Soka Uncobe – Circumcise and Conquer) campaign in Eswatini in 2011. Derek is also interested in sexual and reproductive health and health financing. He is currently pursuing an MSc in Applied Health Economics through the University of South Wales.
